About MeMy name is Shannon Helton and I am so excited to be your child's first grade teacher! This is my first year as a full time teacher, as I spent the last 4 years as a full time substitute. I subbed in many schools throughout Wake County and I'm so happy to have found a home here at LPES. I love being a Penguin!! I currently live in Apex with my husband and two dogs. I love reading, writing, gardening, traveling and eating good food! If I can be outside in nature, I am one happy girl!

Growing Up |
I spent most of my childhood in the Nutmeg State- Connecticut. I am definitely a New England girl and love going back to visit every chance I get. I have also lived in Virginia, Maryland, Florida (born in Tallahassee- go Seminoles!), New York, North and South Carolina. All total- I have moved over 30 times in my life! Once I graduated high school, my parents moved us to North Carolina and I've been able to call this beautiful state home for the last 27 years!

Education |
After moving to NC, I enrolled at NC State where I studied Communications/PR with a Theatre concentration. After 3 years in Raleigh, I was accepted to the Theatre program at UNC-Wilmington. I spent 3 years in Wilmington and received my BA in Theatre Performance. After working in that business for several years, I made the switch to banking where I spent 5 years. During that time, I decided to go back to school and I received my NC Teaching Certification from St. Andrew's University in Laurinburg in 2012. I am planning on going back in the near future to pursue my Masters and possibly PhD. I have several options I would like to pursue, but still haven't made up my mind!
